InstansiIn this paper, zonal and meridional winds from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data are explored to study wind motion in correlation to Indonesian monsoon. Zonal and meridional winds in three climate regions (CRs) as defined by Aldrian and Susanto (2003) are investigated. Clear seasonal oscillation of low-level zonal wind (850 mb) is observed in CRs A and C. Upper-level zonal wind (250 mb) also showed seasonal oscillation in CR A but not so clear in CR C. In CR B, low-level zonal wind represents intra-seasonal variation rather than seasonal variation. However, upper-level zonal wind clearly shows seasonal oscillation. Though low-level meridional wind in CR A does not clearly show seasonal oscillation, upper-level meridional wind clearly shows. In CR B, both of low-level and upper-level meridional winds clearly show seasonal oscillation. In CR C, low-level meridional wind clearly shows seasonal oscillation rather than upper-level. Further, low-level northwesterly associated with wet season and southeasterly associated with dry season are found in CR A. Similar low-level wind motion is found in CR C with larger meridional component.
