Ecological And Ekonomic Aspect Of Complex Agroforest Systems in IndonesiaEcologically the agroforest systems could be comparable to mature secondary forests. The multispecies and multilayer structure of the vegetation create condition, in which flow of nutrient between different plant species is favoured and nutrient loss is kept at minimum level. Agroforest systems are managed sustainably by the farmers. Agroforest systems play important role in agricultural economy in Indonesia and are important sources of income for millions of smallholder farmers. From viewpoint of socio-economic aspects, agroforest systems can be considered as social forestry. So they could be complemented with overall forest policy and development. Development of agroforest systems as sustainable farming methods in Indonesia needs better knowledge on the interaction between trees and other vegetation components; biology of wild fruit and timber producing trees, end products processing and marketing.agroforest, biodiversity, nutrient cycle, economyTitiresmi dan Yudhi Soetrisno Garno
Beberapa Aspek Pengelolaan Cagar Alam Rawa Danau sebagai Sumber Air bakuEconomically, Rawa Danau is important fresh water source for cities of Cilegon and Serang and industrial estates in the area. Ecologically, Rawa Danau is the last and the only mountainous freshwater swamp still exists in Java island. In the last decade there are several studies that recommend increasing the capacity of Rawa Danau as water storage. Recently, the Master Plan of Rawa Danau has been published by the Province of Banten Planning Agency. It is concluded that increasing the water level in Rawa Danau by 2 meters would satisfies the 2010 projected water demand in Serang and Cilegon. We belief that the action could endanger the existence of both the swamp forest and the rice field in the vicinity. In this paper we describe an alternative action that could increase the water storage capacity of Rawa Danau whilst the ecological function of the swamp could be preserved as well.Rawa Danau, mountainous freshwater water sourceBudhi Priyanto dan Titiresmi
Pengembangan Ekowisata Sebagai Pendekatan Pengelolaan Sumberdaya Pesisir BerkelanjutanEcotourism has been chosen as an approach to integrate conservation and economic development in Blendung Village, one of coastal villages in the north coast of Pemalang District. Most of its community depend their livelihood on fish ponds and jasmine plantation. The combination of fish ponds, jasmine plantation and mangrove conservation is expected to be tourist attraction, which ables to enhance the prosperity of local community as well as to recover the function of mangrove as a means for coastal protection that has been lost recently. In order to prepare Blendung Village as a tourist destination, an environmentally- sound tourism area plan was created, and the skill of local community to manage the acitities was developed. The main challenge in the development of ecotourism in Blendung Village is how to empower local community as well as local government, thereby all of those local potentials could be developed, which in turn a sustainable coastal zone could be achieved.ecotourism, coastal resources managementIr. 226Effect Of Nitrite On Denitrification Of Wastewater By Autotrophic BacteriaEffect of nitrite on denitrification of synthetic wastewater using autotrophic bacteria was evaluated in both batch suspension and continuous packed column runs. Emphasis was placed to clarify the minimum concentrations of nitrite and nitrous acid that inhibit the denitrification rates. Batch suspension runs were conducted by mixing acclimatized denitrification sludge and synthetic wastewater in an Erlenmeyer flask. In continuous runs, denitrification sludge was loaded to a column packed with sulfur and limestone. The nitrite inhibition could be explained satisfactorily by substrate non-competitive inhibition model. The minimum concentration of nitrite which inhibits the nitrate and nitrite removal rate lowered with decreasing pH. In suspension runs, the minimum concentration of nitrous acid which inhibited the nitrite removal rate was 0.043 g-N/m3, while the nitrate removal rates was inhibited below 0.012 g-N/m3. Both in suspension and continuous packed column runs, nitrate removal was more sensitive against nitrite increase compared with nitrite removal. The minimum concentration of nitrite which inhibited nitrate removal rate in continuous packed column runs was lower than that in suspension runsAutotrophic bacteria, denitrification, inhibition, nitrite, sulfurRudi Nugroho

Inovasi Teknologi Biohidrogen Dari Limbah Biomasa Ke Energi Listrik Dengan Teknologi Fuel-CellEnterobacter aerogenes ADH-43, Bacillus pumillus Asp-8 and co-culture of both microorganism was inoculated and fermented by using molasses as by product of sugar factory, sugar starch, and glycerol as by product of biodiesel into hydrogen gas (H2). Both producing double mutant bacteria as a facultative anaerobe and who was obtained by classical mutagenetically treated in order to enhance H2 producing. We have obtained that E. aerogenes ADH-43 has highest ability for molasses fermentation, and the volume H2 reached 4,0 l H2/l molasses. The fermentation was carried out in 50 ml vial bootle, 37 oC, pH 5.8 and 20 hrs. Optimization of molasses concentration was performed in order to study the inhibition, and finally, 2 % of molasses was found. To enhance the yield and H2 flow rate, the fed-batch system was applied into 6 l Stirred Tank Fermentor (STR). Innitial volume 2 l of medium was fermented, 1 l fresh medium was added into reactor at 6 and 9 hrs of fermentation time. Finally the achieved volume H2 was 6,5 l H2/l molasses, the remained molases was 0,2 %, and the fermentation time could be prolonged 4 hrs compare to bacth fermentation. We have also found the relationship between the H2 evolution rate and the voltage of electrical formed when we connected into 7 stack of fuel-cell.Enterobacter aerogenes, Hydrogen gas (H2), Fuel Cell, fed-batchMahyudin Abdul Rahman dan Eniya Dewi

Pembangunan Lingkungan Yang HolistikEnvironment is now an important global current issue and as a factor that must be considered in the implementation of Indonesian national development. Entering globalization era, the condition of environment will be one of the parameters required for a country to be accepted in the world free trade community. Instead, a country with bad environment can therefore be charged for a penalty, such as a limited export quota. For that reason, starting now, Indonesia should improve their environmental condition by implementing a good environmental management in order to attain the standard of a good environment. If Indonesia cannot achieve this goal, Indonesia will be used by other countries as their big market, without the ability of Indonesia to export their products. If the standard has been fulfilled, Indonesia can be part of the world free trade community in which this is a benefit for Indonesia itself. Without lowering the pace of development growth, national development through holistic environmental management would be a proper program to implement. This program is considering the impact of development to the environment and this program was commencing by the Indonesian government since 1970. However, it seems that the holistic environmental development has not been running smoothly, especially at the soft sides of development, such as people awareness, environmental law, law enforcement, arbitrary committee, community development, environmental information including people rights to get those information, the role of non-government organization, etc.By considering the importance of environmental development in a holistic way to fulfill the globalization requirements, this paper would be focused on the factors that may inhibit the national development. Those are factors that affect sustainability of environmental functions. Solution to the problems may also generally be described.environmental management holisticAmita Indah Sitomurni
Rancangbangun Pompa Hidram Untuk Masyarakat PedesaanEnvironmental contamination and global climate change cause degradation of fresh water in the whole world. Increasing of oil price also insist the water treatment operational cost rise, especially for pumping and water lifting from the low land areas to up land. One of alternatif solution to reduce operational cost is using Hydraulic ram pumps (hydram pump). Hydram pump are water-lifting devices that are powered by filling water. Such pumps work by using the energy of water falling a small height to lift a small part of that amount of water to a much greater height. In this way, water from a spring or stream in a valley can be pumped to a village or irrigation scheme on the hillside. The main and unique advantage of hydram pumps is that with a continuous flow of water, a hydram pump operates automatically and continuously with no other external energy source - be it electricity or hydrocarbon fuel. It uses a renewable energy source (stream of water) mid hence ensures low running cost. Minimum up lifting vertical power of pump is twice than vertical distance of water down and maximum up lifting vertical power is twenty times than vertical distance of water down. If there are air captured in distribution pipe, it will need release valve. In this paper, different aspect of designing a hydraulic-rain pump system is discussed. Application and limitation of hydram pump is presented. It imparts absolutely no harm to the environment Hydraulic ram pumps are simple, reliable and require minimal maintenance. All these advantages make hydram pumps suitable to rural community water supply and mud backyard irrigation in developing countries.Air bersih pedesaan, pompa hidram, pengelolaan air bersihArie Herlambang dan Heru Dwi Wahjono
Kajian Penelolaan Sumber Daya Air untuk Aplikasi konsep Ecopark pada Taman Kota yang Berukuran BesarEnvironmental problems which happen in Jakarta metropolitan city, have already come into a very critical condition. All surface water, such as rivers, swamps and small lakes, have extremely been continuing polluted. Even ground water, not only the quality is getting worse, but also the quantity is decreasing. Otherwise many swamps and small lakes have been changing into a domestic settlement or commercial estate. One of few alternatives to cope with the problems is to manage all gardens in Jakarta by applying a new concept ?Ecopark? which makes an optimizing the ecological function of a park. The concept is based on the aim to make a friendly garden which is a part of green open space. Through this application, especially for big gardens with the area 5.000m2 - 10.000m2, the water resource potential will increase and its conservation will be continuously guaranteed. Garden Cornel Simanjuntak dan Utama Raya are the two examples of big city gardens which have not been managed yet by the concept Ecopark. This activity explained how the two gardens have to be properly managed by the concept. The water use pattern for watering the plants, garden as the catchment area and domestical wastewater recycling for watering are the major ways to optimize the ecological function of gardens.Environmental problem, water resource management, concept ecopark, ecological function.P. It is quite often that inside of those equipments has been cracked and worn out. This situation will allow air ingression to the system which is called false air. False air is also known as vacuum leak. False air in cement kiln can contribute to higher consumption of fuel, as for increasing air infiltration temperature from ambient to the system will need more fuel.Vacuum leak, false air, cement, fuel savingWiharja dan Widiatmini Sih Winanti
